For centuries, farmers in the mountains of Asia have turned steep slopes into staircases of rice. Built and cared for by hand, the terraces hold water, soil and whole ways of life, and they change colour with every season.

This guide takes you to five remarkable terrace landscapes: Banaue & Batad in the Philippines, the Hani Rice Terraces and Longji in China, Jatiluwih in Bali and Mu Cang Chai in Vietnam.
